AUDIENCE AND STYLE
Q-zine has a global readership that ranges from a fairly sophisticated audience to those who can barely read. We therefore demand readability and accessibility. We ask writers to avoid activists and academic jargons, theoretical references and other terminologies used in close circles.
WHAT Q-ZINE IS LOOKING FOR
- Features, opinion pieces and news on politics, human rights, and social issues
- Fiction, non-fiction (e.g. autobiographical essays, personal essays) and poetry
- Profiles and interviews of activists, writers, artists and other public figures
- Photography
- Illustrations and cartoons
- Painting
- Fashion, make-up and hairstyle shoots
- Book and art reviews
- Web series, TV, movie, play and music reviews
- Reviews of queer-friendly and/or owned bars, restaurants, resorts and hot spots in your community or in places you’ve visited
- Travel diaries.
FEATURE ARTICLES, OPINION PIECES & NEWS ON POLITICS, HUMAN RIGHTS, And SOCIAL ISSUES
Preferred length for feature articles, opinion pieces & news should be between 1,000 to 1,200 words. And include a short biography of the author and artwork/photography for illustration (with credit).
FICTION, NON-FICTION (e.g. autobiographical essays, personal essays) & POETRY
Must be original, unpublished and accompanied with a cover letter including a short biography of the author and artwork/photography for illustration (with credit). Preferred length:1,000 and 2,000 words.
PROFILE & INTERVIEWS OF ARTISTS, WRITERS, ACTIVISTS AND OTHER PUBLIC FIGURES
Preferred length: 1,000 to 1,200 words.
WEBSERIES, PLAY, FILM, TV & MUSIC REVIEWS
Should be on current productions or due to be released. Preferred length is about 1,500 words for feature reviews.
BOOK REVIEWS
Review of any LGBTQIA+ related theme book by African authors is welcome. Preferred length for feature reviews of individual books is 1,000 to 1,500 words and must include publication credits (e.g., publisher, publication year, number of pages, illus., etc.).
ART
Illustrations, paintings, cartoons and photography on any LGBTQI-related theme are welcome. Each image should have a caption (max. 100 words) commenting on the work. In the case of photos the location and date should also be given. All images should be submitted as TIFF or JPG files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi and 1,200 pixels. Please note that all electronic images should be clearly linked to their caption sheets with consistent numbering, etc.
PHOTOGRAPHY, FASHION & STYLE
Photography, fashion, make-up and hairstyle shoots should be in color or black and white. They should include the name of the designer, the models, the make-up artist and photographer. Provide a short description of the work, the contact address of the artist (including Facebook page), website, boutique address and prices of work featured. All images should be submitted as TIFF or JPG files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi and 1,200 pixels. Please note that all electronic images should be clearly linked to their caption sheets with consistent numbering, etc.
TRAVEL DIARIES & REVIEW OF PLACES
Reviews of queer-friendly and/or owned bars, restaurants, resorts and hot spots in your community or in places you’ve visited. Preferred length: 300 to 800 words.

LANGUAGE: We are a fully bilingual magazine; contributions should be in English and/or French.
